Jing and the Feet

One of the most important factors in expressing jing through the palms and fingers is the root. Your root is like the root of a tree: without it, the tree will fall. If you do not have a good root when you apply techniques, they will float and have no power. lt is like trying to push a heavy object while wearing roller skates. The root of jing and all techniques comes from the feet. The feet must be stable. To develop this Stability you must visualize your root a few inches beneath your feet. If your thought is only on your feet, the connection between your feet and the ground is broken and the root will not grow deep into the ground. Almost all Chinese martial styles train root at the very beginning of the martial training. Without a good root, all the techniques are weak and ineffective. Thus, it is said: The root is in the feet", and also: The foot and sole are the third chancellor. The classics also mention: "[If] the bubbling well lyongquan cavity] has no root, the waist has no master, [then] you can try hard to learn until you almost die, you will still not succeed".
